Sample Essay 1 (Band 8.5)

Artificial intelligence development has sparked intense debate regarding the balance between innovation and societal protection. While some advocate for strict oversight, others champion unrestricted development. This essay will examine both perspectives before presenting my own position.

Proponents of strict regulation argue that how artificial intelligence is transforming the healthcare industry demonstrates both the potential and risks of AI. Uncontrolled AI development could lead to job displacement, privacy violations, and even existential threats to humanity. For instance, autonomous weapons systems could make warfare more devastating, while biased algorithms might perpetuate social inequalities.

Conversely, those favoring unrestricted development contend that excessive regulation could stifle innovation. They maintain that technological breakthroughs often require freedom from bureaucratic constraints. The rapid advancement of machine learning in medical diagnosis exemplifies how unfettered research can yield life-saving applications.

In my opinion, a balanced approach is essential. While The ethical concerns of using AI in surveillance are valid, completely restricting AI development could prevent us from realizing its beneficial potential. I believe the solution lies in implementing flexible frameworks that promote responsible innovation while establishing clear ethical boundaries.

Sample Essay 2 (Band 6.5)

The development of AI technology is a topic that many people discuss today. Some people think it needs strict rules, but others want it to be free. I will talk about both sides and give my opinion.

People who want strict rules for AI development have good reasons. They worry about dangerous AI programs that could harm society. For example, AI might take away jobs from humans or make decisions that are unfair. Also, some AI systems could be used for bad things like spying on people.

On the other hand, some people think AI should develop freely. They say that too many rules will stop progress. When scientists can work freely, they can make better AI systems that help in medicine and education. This could make life better for everyone.

I think both sides have good points, but I agree more with having some rules. We need rules to make sure AI is safe, but these rules should not be too strict. This way, we can get benefits from AI while staying safe.
